What do you do when you have more than 1 choice in front of you and they both look good?
when the guideline for "Good Decisions" start to Blur.
Often times we are caught up by a fork in the road, we don't know what path to take, we ask ourselves "should I take path A or path B" and more than often we get paralysis by analysis. And just end up doing nothing.
Contrary to popular belief, we have a finite amount of brainpower to do a finite amount of things in any given day, that is why we need to create systems and frameworks.
Here is a framework with will help you. You can find the template here.
Activity
In Column 1 write down all the activities you want to do.
Impact
in Column 2, we are looking at what is the impact of this activity, on my final goal. When it comes to goals you need to quantify them.
Examples
Urgency
In Column 3, we are talking about Urgency, we need to ask ourselves "Do we need to do this right now or can this wait?".
Something can have lot of impact but they can wait.
Cost
In Column 4, we are looking at Cost. What is it going to cost you to make this happen? Some things will be free.
For example, writing some articles will be free, unlike going to a trade show it will cost you, (Admission Fee, Booth Setup, Travel, Marketing Material, Etc.)
For things with High Urgency and High Impact but Low Cost, you can hire someone to do that work.
Score
We will talk about the Score Column in a bit
How to use it this Sheet
In each column we will assign a number form 1 - 10
Once you have assigned a number to each of these categories, we will add all these numbers in the 5th column name score. Activities with the highest number are the ones we will do first.
Here is an Example
Let start with the goal:
Increase site traffic by 500 visitor per day
In this case we will be doing the Activity "Creating an Affiliate Program First" first.
Important Things to Keep in Mind
When you first get started with these worksheets, it might feel a bit daunting on what values you will assign all these categories, the important thing I will tell you is that just get started! the more you will do this the better you will get.
Don't worry about numbers as much, in the beginning just follow the process and be consistent.
Feedback Loop
The last thing to do is create a feedback loop and iterate on the process to see what worked what did not. that is how you will improve on anything.
